Phoenix chorus was founded in 1978 by 8 people and now numbers around 60 members from a range of ages, backgrounds and professions.
All members of the community are welcomed and, in return, we try to give back to the community through local performances, known as “sing outs”. You don’t have to be able to read music as we learn from audio teach tracks plus sheet music, and we always perform from the heart without holding sheet music, to ensure we fully connect with our audience.
Membership is open to women and singers of marginalized genders who are comfortable singing somewhere in the SSAA range. Do you enjoy singing along with Mariah Carey, Sarah Brightman, Adele, Shirley Bassey, Annie Lennox or Tracey Chapman and Nina Simone? Then there’s a part for you. We recognise and value people of all backgrounds, abilities, life experiences, preferences and beliefs, and seek to provide a choral experience that is safe and inclusive for all. We are committed to selecting music that is inclusive and respectful in relation to race, gender and sexual orientation. Above all, we are a team that supports each other to learn and grow musically within chorus and the international organisation of which we are part, and which provides educational resources online and at annual conventions (https://sweetadelines.org.uk/).
Through success in competitions, Phoenix has earned places to compete in Europe and the USA. We have represented our region 3 times at the main competition of our organisation in USA in Hawaii, Las Vegas and St Louis. We rehearse every Tuesday at Stratton School in Biggleswade (7.30-10pm). If you want to visit to hear us or are interested in joining please contact Sarah (07961-483160) or email contact@phoenixchorus.co.uk. We love an audience and meeting new people!
